The Academy has however been relieved of the latter responsibility and now it is tasked with imparting professional training to the officers of the Bangladesh Administrative service only. The Academy is an attached department under the administrative control of the Ministry of Establishment. The present premises of the Academy has a long history. It housed the Gazetted Officers training camp during the days of the then East Bengal . After the partition of India in1947, the training camp was renamed as Gazetted Officers Training Academy (GOTA) in 1959. The GOTA, which functioned till 1971, was renamed as Civil Officers’ Training Academy (COTA) after independent of Bangladesh. The COTA tasked with responsibility of the Magistrates functioned up to 1984 when it was merged with the newly created Public Administration Training Center (PATC). The PATC set up a Regional PATC (RPATC) here for conducting some of its training activities. The RPATC was relocated to another premises when finally BCS Admin Academy. Academy care into being and took over the premises in 1987.
